Safety Concerns: As you know, safety is top priority at Lawrence Elementary. We are continuing to experience hazardous situations in our school parking lots. PLEASE follow the arrows in the back lot, pull all the way forward in the valet line, and use the sidewalk instead of walking through the parking lot. We are fortunate that we have not experienced a major catastrophe. If our established safety polices are not followed, we are bound to face an unfortunate event.

Welcome to Lawrence:  We would like to welcome Mrs. Schultz’s class to Lawrence Elementary effective Monday, December 4th. The classroom is designed to support TK-1 grade students by using Applied Behavior Analysis and Social Thinking strategies. Welcome students, staff, and parents!

Attendance: Each month we monitor our school’s attendance. One of our goals in the Single Plan for Student Achievement is to maintain 97%. Last month we exceeded 97% by reaching 98.05%. We were the top elementary school for the second month in a row. Thank you for remembering Every Day Counts!

PTO News:

Holidays Around the World is a community event to help teach our children about the many different ways people celebrate the holidays and winter around the world.  Do you have a tradition you would like to represent?  We are asking families from our community to volunteer for this event by signing up for a country and representing your celebrations via food or a craft. PTO will provide a small budget to help purchase your supplies. Volunteers do not need District clearance to support this event.  We need your help to make this a successful event.  Please sign up via the We Join below as soon as possible so we can begin planning.

Internet for Your Home: Enabling students to access the internet at home is a crucial step towards closing the achievement gap, yet 1 in 4 households in the U.S. lack home internet access. While many parents can access the internet via their smartphone, home access allows students to complete homework assignments, research topics, and submit college applications. Families without access in our district may qualify to receive internet in their home for just $10 per month through programs like EveryoneOn. Please see attached flyer.

Attendance: One of our school site goals is to maintain 97% average daily attendance. We did not reach that goal our first month of school. However, not only did we reach our goal last month, we had the best attendance out of all the elementary schools in LVJUSD. Thank you for helping us reach our goal!

Inspiration Rock Garden: Our Lawrence Inspiration Rock Garden is complete! Special thanks to Mrs. Rivera and Mr. VonHeeder for the countless hours of time spent on the project.  What a wonderful piece of art we created for our campus.  If you are attending Trunk or Treat tonight, visit the garden and find your rock. Please remember, it is a piece of art and students should never climb on the planter. We all worked very hard to create this art and we would like it to remain for years to come!

Attendance: Each month we monitor our school’s attendance. One of our goals in the Single Plan for Student Achievement is to maintain 97%. Last month we reached 96.8%. This placed us 10 out of 12 compared to all other LVJUSD Elementary schools. The top schools reached 98.08%.  Please remember Every Day Counts! Each classroom will be starting a new competition on Monday, October 2. Students must be present and on-time in order to reach their daily goal. As a reminder, our gates lock right at 8:30a.m. This will continue to take place in order to maintain consistency and fairness amongst our classrooms.

Parking Lot Safety Issue: This is the FOURTH time this information has been included in the Lawrence Labrador Lowdown. Parents are still crossing with their children through the valet line. Please use the painted yellow walkway when you park in the visitor spots or on the street. Crossing the parking lot through the valet line is extremely dangerous and not permitted. As cars are entering the parking lot, or backing out of spaces, they do not always see pedestrians who are randomly crossing. Thanks in advance for your help with this matter. We need to prevent a tragedy from happening in our parking lot.

Parking Lot Safety Issue: This is the third time this information has been included in the Lawrence Labrador Lowdown. We had another very close call on Wednesday. Two pedestrians were almost hit walking through the parking lot. Please use the painted yellow walkway when you park in the “vistor” spots or on the street.

Fall Conference Days: Students will be released at 1:30p.m. on October 9-10, 12-13, and 15-16 for Fall Conferences. October 11 and 14 are early release days for teacher collaboration. Please make sure to mark your calendar for two weeks of minimum days.

Injuries/Illnesses: Lawrence Elementary takes student wellbeing very seriously. When you notify the office of an injury/illness, please follow up with verbal or e-mail communication to your child’s teacher. This will allow you to make arrangements for necessary accommodations (i.e.: extended time on assignments, modified PE, etc.).

Child Welfare and Attendance News:

Hey, Lawrence Elementary! Guess what September is? It’s attendance awareness month. This is Cheryce Johnson and I am the Child Welfare and Attendance Specialist for Lawrence Elementary. I am so excited to tell you what we have planned to promote great attendance for the 2017/2018 school year. The Best, Year, Ever!

We will be having contests between classes and contests between schools. We will have prizes and parties.

Statistics show that student success starts with great attendance. It does not matter if absences are excused or unexcused, when students are not in class, they miss valuable instruction time and Every, Minute, Matters. We are asking families to work extra hard to get students to school on time, every day possible, and to try not to pick them up early unless absolutely necessary.

So, keep in mind, that for the 2017/2018 school year, Every Minute Matters and this will be the Best, Year, Ever!!

Thank you for taking an active role in your child’s education, and supporting Lawrence Elementary staff. We appreciate all you do on a daily basis and look forward to the upcoming year.

Remember, one vote per person please. Voting will close on Thursday, September 8

Parking Lot Safety Issue: Please use the painted yellow walkway when you park in the “vistor” spots. Crossing the street through the valet line is extremely dangerous and not permitted. As cars are entering the parking lot, they do not always see pedestrians who are randomly crossing. Thanks in advance for your help with this matter. We need to prevent a tragedy from happening in our parking lot.

Library Media Specialist Message: An important document from Mrs. Rivera was e-mailed and distributed on Thursday, August 31st. Please take a moment to read the information. If you would like your child to “opt out” of interaction with the therapy dogs, please contact Mrs. River at arivera@lvjusd.k12.ca.us

Morning Supervision: Students may not arrive on campus prior to 8:15 a.m. The gate will not open until 8:15 a.m. due to supervision and safety concerns.

Welcome Back: On behalf of all the Lawrence Elementary Staff, we hope your son/daughter had a fabulous first week of school. The students did a wonderful job following directions and learning new routines and procedures. We enjoyed watching all the new friendships develop. We hope that you heard many heartwarming stories from your child.

Help Needed: We are searching high and low for Lawrence Elementary parents who are willing and able to supervise our valet and blacktop areas in the morning from 8:00-8:30a.m. Please contact the office for more details (i.e.: compensation) if you are able to help.

Parking: If you are escorting a first though fifth grade student to class in the morning, we kindly ask that you park in the parking lot. This will allow our TK/Kindergarten families the opportunity to park in front of the school (green curb) and walk their child to class. Thanks in advance for your help with this matter.

Morning Supervision: Students may arrive on campus at 8:15 a.m. The gate will not open until 8:15 a.m. due to supervision and safety concerns. If students are not with an adult, they must go to the blacktop/field area after dropping off their backpacks.

Dismissal: If you have a 1st – 3rd grade student who needs to wait for a sibling in 4th or 5th grade, they must head to the front of the school. All parties will unite there. Many students are wandering around campus unsupervised, which presents a safety issue.

New School Colors: We’re excited to start the process for determining Lawrence Elementary’s school colors. Please come to Back-to-School Night to learn more about our popular choices. Every family will have a chance to vote on their favorite colors during Back-to-School Night or via an electronic survey.

Lawrence Elementary Handbook: The school handbook is posted on our website at http://lawrence.schoolloop.com/ Please take a moment to review Lawrence Elementary policies and procedures.

Parent Volunteers: Lawrence Elementary takes pride in the fact that parent volunteers are a key component to the success of our school. All volunteers must report directly to the front office to sign in and obtain a visitor’s pass. Please visit http://www.livermoreschools.com/volunteer to apply as a School Site Volunteer. We encourage all parents to become actively involved with the school.
