She holds a bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in Education, also from UC Berkeley. Before she began her teaching career, she worked as both a biologist studying protamine and an analytical chemist working on the Yucca Mountain project at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She has taught for 23 years and has worked with transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and fifth grade students as well as serving as an elementary science specialist and middle school science teacher. She and her husband Joe live in Livermore and have three teenage sons. She is a third generation LVJUSD employee as her grandma Rachel (food services), mom Janie (clerical), and dad Dave (technology) all worked for the district.
